Ms Gurprit Kaur was graduated from South Bank University, London in 2000. Following the completion of her LL.B degree in law with distinction, she joined Legal Practice Course at The Inns of Court, School of Law, London between 2001 – 2002. She had successfully completed her Legal Practice Course in 2002. She started her training contract at Asghar & Co Solicitors, Southall in July 2002 and qualified as a solicitor in 2004. She remained in Asghar & Co Solicitors until November 2009. She then moved into SBM Solicitors, Hounslow, Middlesex in December 2009. She is member of Family Law Panel, applying the Law Society Protocol to all family clients’ matters and also worked as a Supervisor in Family Department
Ms Gurprit Kaur specialises in Family Law, including divorce and separation, financial settlements arising out of divorce and separation, children disputes, and disputes between unmarried cohabitees. Her duties are to deal with all aspects of family law. She has been dealing with family matters such as Divorce, Children (public and Private) Domestic Violence and Ancillary Relief. Her role involved dealing from beginning to end with divorce procedure, i.e, drafting the divorce petition to decree absolute.
She has successfully been able to negotiate with the other side in amicable agreements without the recourse to courts i.e. Consent orders. She has also dealt with Prohibited Steps Order and Care Proceedings. She has liased with local authorities such as, London Borough of Ealing. Slough, Hillingdon and Reading Borough.
She has dealt with Injunction proceedings and liaised with various organisations such as Domestic Violence Unit, Asian Women’s Refuge and social services. In addition she has dealt with clients’ immigration status at the same time i.e. domestic violence concessions.
In relation to Ancillary relief proceedings, she has properly advised clients regarding the procedure and the costs implications. She has been successful on many occasions to settle the case without the need to proceed the Final Hearing. There has been overlap with conveyancing as she has had to comply with court orders which require transferring the matrimonial home; registering cautions and drafting Trust deeds.
Ms Gurprit Kaur was a TV host for an Asian channel presenting a legal show, Legal Advisor at Southall Rights, and provided telephone advice at Rights of Women.
